About Howard City

Howard City is a village of 1,835 people (2020 census) in the northwest corner of Montcalm County, mostly in Reynolds Township. It was settled in 1868 and grew up around the Detroit, Grand Rapids and Western railroad depot, which opened the next year.

After a fire in 1883 burned the original wooden storefronts, the business district moved to Edgerton Street, where downtown is today. Tri County Area Schools, home of the Vikings, serves the village and the surrounding townships.
