Grant is a small city in southern Newaygo County, on M-37 between Newaygo and Grand Rapids. For most people in Grant, M-37 is the road to everything. Howard City sits about 18 miles to the northeast, at the other main road in the area: US-131.
Why someone in Grant would look at Howard City
M-37 is fine for getting to Grand Rapids. It’s less useful when your work takes you north to Big Rapids, east into Montcalm County, or anywhere along the freeway. An office in Howard City gives you a base at US-131 Exit 118, with M-46 running east and M-82 running west toward Newaygo.
If your clients are scattered across Newaygo, Montcalm, and northern Kent counties, that’s a central place to meet them.
The drive
Most drivers from Grant take county roads east and then north toward Exit 118, which is roughly a half-hour trip. Your map app will pick the fastest line from your own address, and it’s worth checking it on a winter morning as well as a summer one.
Who from Grant leases an office
- Field businesses such as contractors and agricultural services that work across several counties and need a clean room for paperwork, estimates, and meetings
- Advisors and agents with clients in both Newaygo and Montcalm counties
- Remote employees who want an office away from the house and closer to the freeway
When to stay closer to home
If your clients are mostly in Grant, Newaygo, and along M-37, you’ll probably be happier with an office closer to home. Howard City makes sense when your work already heads north or east.
