Cedar Springs, home of the Red Flannel Festival, has more commercial space than the villages to its north, so if you live there, starting your office search in town makes sense.
Howard City is worth a look when your work points north.
About twenty minutes up the freeway
Howard City is about 14 miles north of Cedar Springs on US-131. Take the freeway to Exit 118 and follow M-46 east into the village. In normal conditions the drive is around twenty minutes, and you’re heading away from Grand Rapids traffic at both ends of the day.
When Howard City is the better fit
Your clients are north and west of you. If you serve people in Montcalm, Newaygo, or Mecosta counties, an office at Exit 118 puts you in the middle of them. Clients from Newaygo can come east on M-82, clients from Lakeview can come west on M-46, and clients from Big Rapids can come south on US-131.
You live north of town. If your house is out past the edge of the city, Howard City may be closer than you’d expect. Check the drive from your own driveway, not from downtown.
You want a quieter setting. Howard City is a village of about 1,800 people. That means easy parking and a calm place for client meetings.
When staying in Cedar Springs is better
If most of your clients are in Cedar Springs, Rockford, or northern Grand Rapids, an office closer to them is usually the right call. The drive to Howard City only makes sense if it shortens the trips you already make.
A useful test
Look at last month’s calendar and mark every place you drove for work. If most of those marks are north of Cedar Springs, Howard City deserves a tour.
